Glaoch ar dheireadh a chur le síniú leasa shóisialta

Ghlaoigh urlabhraí an pháirtí pholaitiúil shóisialaigh phoblachtánaigh, éirígí, Mícheál Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig ar rialtas Bhaile Átha Cliath deireadh a chur leis an ghníomh de shiniú go míosúil ag oifigí leasa shóisialta chun sochar dífhostaíochta a fháil. Tagann a chuid glaonna i ndiaidh feachtais bhileog déanta 27ú Iúil ag ceann d’Ionaid na Seirbhíse Poiblí i nDún na nGall.

“Bhí mé ag ceann dem oifigí leasa shóisialta anseo i nDún na nGall inniu agus bhí mé mar fhinné arís eile ar na scuainí móra daoine curtha i líne le síniú chun a sochar dífhostaíochta a fháil, agus ag labhairt le roinnt dóibh siúd atá mífhorúnach go leor a bheith i measc na mílte daoine atá dífhostaithe anois de bharr drochláimhseáil ár n-eacnamaíochta, tá sé soiléir go bhfuil an córas reatha atá againn do dhaoine ag fáil sochar dífhostaíochta go huile is go hiomlán do-ghlactha,” dúirt urlábhraí éirígí.

“Déarfaidh duine ar bith de na daoine atá ag brath faoi láthair ar shochar an stáit le maireachtáil cé chomh deacair is atá sé maireachtáil ar an mhéad a fhaigheann siad agus go bhfuil streachailt deacair go leor gan an scuaine náireach seachtainiúil a fhulaingt i gcomhair síneadh láimhe, radhairc atá cosúil leis na laethanta a bhí ann le scuainí do theach na mbocht. Is próiseas táireach é nach ndéanann rud ar bith chun cúnamh a thabhairt dóibh siúd atá gan obair agus gan locht ar bith orthu féin. Is rud dímhisniúil é agus tógann sé dínit an fhaighteora leasa shóisialta, chóir a bheith go bhfuil sé in ainm is é sin a dhéanamh,” dúirt sé.

Chríochnaigh an tUasal Mac Giolla Easbuig ag rá, “Is cur amú airgid an cháiníocóra é freisin tríd foireann na n-ionad seo a bheith gafa chun deileáil leis na daoine mífhorúnacha bochta seo agus tá mé cinnte go ndéarfadh fostaithe na seirbhíse poiblí, a bhfuil orthu deileáil leis na scuainí seo, i ngach ionad, ní amháin anseo i nDún na nGall ach ar fud na Sé chontae is Fiche go mbeadh a gcuid ama caite níos fearr agus níos táirgiúla ag deileáil le cúrsaí eile a thugann Ionaid na Seirbhíse Poiblí aire do. Caithfidh na daoine i dTeach Laighean deireadh a chur leis an phróiseas antoisceach agus mímhisniúil seo agus modh oibre níos ciallmhara, níos treoraithe agus níos mothálaí a bhunú ó thaobh deileáil le faighteoirí leasa shóisialta.”

Call For an End to Signing On

Spokesperson for the socialist republican political party, éirígí, Micheál Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig has called on the Dublin Government to abolish the act of having to sign on monthly at social welfare offices to receive unemployment benefit. His calls come after a leafleting campaign carried out on Tuesday (27th July) by éirígí at one of the Public Services Centres in Donegal.

“I was at one of the local welfare offices here in Donegal today and witnessed once again the long queues of people lining up to sign on to receive their unemployment benefit, and speaking to some of those unfortunate enough to find themselves amongst the throngs of people now unemployed thanks to the bad handling of our economy, it is evident that the current system we have for people receiving unemployment benefit is totally unacceptable,” the éirígí spokesperson said.

“Any of those people who currently rely upon state benefit to survive will tell you how hard it is to get by on the amount they receive and that struggle is hard enough without having to endure the embarrassing weekly queue for a handout, scenes which are almost reminisent of the days of queues for the workhouse. Its a degrading process which does nothing to aid those who find themselves out of work through no fault of their own. If anything its demoralizing and takes the last shread of dignity away from welfare repcipients, almost as if it was designed to do so,” he said.

Mr Mac Giolla Easbuig concluded by saying, “Its also a waste of tax payers money having the staff of these centres tied up to deal with all these poor unfortunate people and I'm sure even the public service employees who have to deal with these queues, in every centre, not just here in Donegal but across the Twenty-Six Counties would tell you that their time would be better and more productively spent dealing with other matters that the Public Services Centres look after. Those in Lenister House need to immediately bring an end to this draconian and degrading process and establish a more sensible, fairer, straight forward and sensitive approach to the handling of welfare recipients.”
